:: A Frame Cabin Dreams & How To ::

Every time I see an A-Frame cabin in the woods I sigh. I start to dream about a future cabin in the North woods on a lake. For now I will just scan Pinterest for inspiration. I realized my A-Frame dreams may not be so far fetched when I stumbled on a great “How To” on Urban Outfitters blog. It looks totally doable. If your the tiny cabin sorta person. In fact now I think we could do a little playhouse version in our backyard woods. Have a great weekend all. Here’s a little A-Frame inspiration. Xo, Annie

Sneak Peek :: Park City, UT Design

Here is a quick peek at one of my recent designs in Park City, UT. The mission was to take a large Master Suite and create a design that uses it’ s full potential. This client really inspired me with her Pinterest boards to create a look that is modern, cozy with a worldly twist. They have a beautiful mountain view out their window, so creating a window seat was a must. I selected woven and natural style fabric options for the window cushion. The furniture and lighting is the modern part of the design. Then I mixed the worldly touch in with Moroccan and Indian pillows. The room was topped off  with a recommended ceiling detail of rustic wood beams. I think this Master sweet will be a nice retreat day or night. Here is a look at the boards. Of course the design shopping list and details are saved for the client.

Etsy Find :: Origami Lights

I recently designed a Brooklyn baby girl nursery that I will show you for a our Thursday Sneak Peek. I always throw an Etsy find in all my designs. My favorite Etsy find was from the shop nellianna. She makes beautiful origami pendant lights that are so cool. I’m a sucker for any kind of different lighting and these had me smiling big time. Visit her shop and see if you can work in a little orgami light into your home.

What do you think? Do you like these? Whats your favorite light in your home?

Check back tomorrow for my Brooklyn nursery sneak peek.

Fresh Air :: Can You Do A Pergola?

Are you stuck on what to do with your backyard update? Can you add a pergola? A pergola is a great way to create an outdoor living space that adds both beauty and function. They are always an inviting space to seek shade and still allow for a breeze. Pergola’s are more cost and time effective than adding on a full porch or deck. Here is a little inspiration viaElle Decor to get you planning your outdoor living space.

Field Trip :: The Last Bookstore Downtown L.A.

If you ever find yourself in downtown L.A. you must take a visit to The Last Bookstore. After seeing this bookstore you will never need to see another. They converted a 100 year old bank building into the ultimate bookstore. The books turn into fascinating sculptures of arches and peak holes. There is an upstairs and lower level vault turned vintage book hideout. In one area they color coded all the books which made me oh so happy (I’m a sucker for a color coded book shelf). Oh and who could forget the wooly mammoth on the wall…every bookstore should have that. It was a great field trip even for our 3 yr old daughter who’s imagination was running wild. I highly recommend adding it to your L.A. must see list. It’s the Mother of all bookstore.

5 Things To Do This Weekend

Happy weekend all!  Here are 5 things you could try….

Xo, Annie

#1 Create a vertical garden with succulents. I have been seeing these all over L.A. patios. It’s a great way to bring green art to your patio that feels like it’s lacking. There are ideas on how to achieve this all over Pinterest or purchase an already made version on Etsy. photo via The Urchin Collective.

#2 Create a fun cloud light for your little one. I know… it looks like a fire hazard right? The key to safety is to use a cool to the touch LED light…DO NOT use a regular light bulb. Get the tutorial via Parents

#3 Step away from the computer..or get this cool letter press print to remind yourself to do so. I know I need this reminder. print via Etsy shop LaFarme.

#4 Color code your books it makes a big difference. photo via Dust Jacket

#5 Create a little polka dot art for that empty wall and add drama with curtains. photo via Lonny

Product Love :: Cement Tile Obsessed

In our next home or Decorator in a Box design I have to use cement tile. It always stops me in my tracks. It is one of those materials that really takes a room to the next level and dials up the style factor. Here are a few of my favorite applications. If you need some help selecting tile to update your Kitchen, Bath, Entry or Fireplace just contact me at Decorator in a Box.

Would you use cement tile in your home? If you have… where?
